My project is about the benefits of walking on mental health.For my Silver Award, I worked with a partner to establish a new club in the Manhasset Middle School called the Healthy Living Club. During this process, I learned about the importance of mental health and how it is impacted by stress, technology, the pressure to live up to expectations of other people and solutions to cope with these issues. One very important and cost free way to combat these issues is to exercise, specifically walking.I wanted to create a guide to show people how easy it can be to walk in their neighborhood. By identifying routes and how long it would take to walk those routes, I hope people will see how easy it is and they will start walking.I created walking routes in four of the villages of Manhasset. In each village, there are 3 different walks between 1 and 3 miles, along with some relevant information about each community. How it all ties to my project you may ask? Well, I am trying to show how walking can not only improve your physical health but it can also improve your mental health even more.
